Description
Doors and windows appear in elevation or section views, but their ID tags or stamps are missing. Although markers are visible in the floor plan, the same numbering does not carry over to elevations or sections., and you need each opening to display its ID or key parameters directly in these views for proper documentation.
Solution
Elevation and section views do not use the built-in door and window markers from the plan and instead rely on the label tool to show opening information.
To display tags, you must attach an appropriate door/window symbol label to the openings in your elevations and sections using the label tool then choose content that reads the opening ID and other parameters.
Step 1: Prepare a door and window label type
Use this when you first set up door and window tags in a project so all elevations and sections share a consistent label style.
Activate the label tool from the toolbox.
Open Label Selection Settings then in the Type and Preview panel choose a symbol label that is designed for openings such as Door Window Stamp or Opening Label from the predefined symbol labels with element information list. Symbol Labels with Element Information.
Go to Label Custom Settings and configure the content so it reads at least the element ID and any other parameters you need (for example size or classification) by enabling the relevant fields under Content setup.
In the Text Style and Symbol Label panels set frame, pen, text size and head shape so the tag matches your documentation standards.
Click OK to store these as the current default for the label tool - save it as a favorite for future use.
Step 2: Place tags on door and window elevations
Use this when you already have an elevation or section generated and you want to add tags to all visible doors and windows in one operation.
Open the required elevation or section viewpoint from the navigator so the openings you want to tag are visible.
Select either the door tool or the window tool from the toolbox then use Ctrl+A (Windows) or Cmd+A (macOS) to select all doors or all windows that are visible in the current view.
With the openings still selected go to Document > Annotation > Label selected elements to attach labels to all selected doors or windows at once using the current Label tool defaults you configured in step 1.
Step 3: Control which views show opening tags
Use this when tags appear incorrectly in some views or you want to standardize annotation across multiple elevations and sections.
Ensure that the label layer used for your door and window tags is turned on in the elevation or section layer combination, so the tags remain visible on all related documentation views.
Save the configured view as a view in via Navigator > View Map so the same label appearance and visibility is reused whenever you place that elevation or section onto layouts.
Step 4: Update or change tag content later
Use this when you change IDs or parameters and want the tags to refresh automatically.
Edit the element ID or other parameters of a door or window in its Selection Settings dialog then return to the elevation or section view to see the associated label update automatically because it reads live element information.
If you need a different graphic style, select one of the placed labels and open Label Selection Settings then switch to another Symbol Label type or adjust its Custom Settings.
