Issue Description
As a requirement, I need to add page numbers to a Layout, with these numbers automatically updating as different pages are navigated. How can page numbers be included that update seamlessly across multiple pages in the Layout Book?
Solution
To automate page numbering in Layouts, you can use the Autotext feature in Archicad. This ensures that the page numbers update seamlessly across different pages without manual adjustments. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you:
1. Navigate to the Layout Book:
- In the Project Navigator, locate and click on the Layout Book.
- This section holds all the Layouts. Here, adjust the Master page(s), which controls the Sheet settings (Size) and holds the Title Blocks across multiple Layouts.
2. Open and Select the Master Layout:
- Once in the Layout Book, go to the Masters section.
- Select the Master Layout that is applied to the pages where you want numbering to appear.
- Repeat this process for each Master page if there are different Master pages applied across the Layout book (e.g., one for the title page and another for content pages).
3. Insert the Page Number Using Autotext:
- After selecting the Master page, choose the Text Tool and click anywhere on the layout on where the page number will appear.
- Next, go to the Autotext options. From the list, find the Autotext entry that is linked to “Layout Number” and select it. This will dynamically generate the page number for each Layout.
4. Include the Total Number of Pages (Optional):
- To give a professional touch to your Layout, you can also include the total number of pages in your project.
- Still using the Text Tool, after inserting the Layout Number, add a separator (like “of” word), and then include the Autotext entry for Total Number of Layouts.
- Your page number will now look something like this: “Page 3 of 10,” where "3" automatically updates for each page, and "10" represents the total number of sheets.
