Description:
I have a dimension on a wall which has text that is oriented differently from the standard bottom to top direction. What causes the dimension to behave this way? How can I rotate this on the other side?
Solution:
Incorrect orientation of dimension text can cause confusion and misinterpretation to the reader. This issue often arises when the element is not orthogonally aligned. The following steps outline how to identify the cause and correct the orientation of dimension text.
- Check for the orthogonality of dimensions. Reason why the dimension text is aligned the opposite way is because the element it defines is not oriented orthogonally. You can use the Element Orientation Check to confirm if the element is orthogonal. This label tool can be downloaded here.
- In cases where the element is not orthogonal by nature, you can modify the text orientation by rotating it manually.
- Select dimension text. Go to Dimension Text Settings > Uncheck “Always Readable Box”.
- Select dimension text. Use the “Rotate” command to rotate the text.
Note: Only one dimension text can be rotated at a time, not multiple simultaneously.
