Calculating the volume of soil excavation for a project can be done in various ways. However, using the opening tool can automate this process, streamlining the workflow and making it quicker and more efficient.
1. Place the opening tool in 2D or 3D and remember to control the depth.
2. Change the ID of the opening so it can be distinguished in your schedule later on.
3. Create a new schedule.
4. Under the Criteria, set the Element Type to be Opening.
5. Add a new criteria: Element ID contains 'Excavated soil'.
6. In the Fields section, add the desired parameters along with the Net Volume. This will give you the excavation volume. You can total this volume to simplify subtracting it from the overall mesh volume later.
