License not recognized in Archicad 28

Issue description

If Archicad 28 does not start after installation, launches only in demo mode, or no license is detected, and you are using key-based protection licenses (CodeMeter software key or USB hardware dongle) managed via the License Manager Tool, this article applies to you. It does not cover Graphisoft cloud licensing.

Solution

The following troubleshooting steps apply if Archicad 28 cannot find a license. It explains the different ways to update the license.

1. Start an Older Version of Archicad

If Archicad 27, 26, or an older version starts with a valid license, the license needs to be updated for Archicad 28 (see step 2).

2. Update License: Software Key

1. Open the License Manager Tool (Programs > Graphisoft > License Manager Tool).
2. Download the Software Key.
3. Click Update.

Note: For network licenses distributed via a server, the License Manager Tool must be opened on the license server. Updating locally is not possible.

3. Update License: Hardware Dongle (USB Dongle)

1. Open the License Manager Tool (Programs > Graphisoft > License Manager Tool).
2. Select the license and click Update.

Note: The USB Dongle must be connected to the device. For network licenses distributed via a server, the License Manager Tool must be opened on the license server, as local updates are not possible.
