Issue description
When you attempt to use a DXF file as a 3D object, the file does not appear in the Object Tool or Embedded Library. You want the DXF geometry to be available as a placeable object, but importing or merging only adds 2D elements to the project.
Solution
A DXF file must be imported as a Library Part to use it as an object. By default, opening or merging a DXF file will only add 2D content. To create a 3D object from DXF geometry, use the Open Object feature in the Libraries and Objects menu.
Import DXF as Object
- Go to File > Libraries and Objects > Open Object.
- Click the drop down menu for Open Library Part from: and choose Browse for File.
- In the file dialog, set the file type to DXF and select your DXF file.
- Click Open. The GDL Object Editor window will appear.
- Review the object settings as needed, assign license from the drop down menu. You can adjust parameters or preview the imported geometry.
- Click File > Save to store the object. Save it to your Embedded Library or a Linked Library folder.
- Close the GDL Object Editor.
The imported DXF is now available as an object. Use the Object Tool to place it in your project.
Alternative method:
- Use File > Libraries and Objects > Import Blocks from DXF/DWG to convert AutoCAD blocks to objects if your DXF contains block definitions
Note: Only the geometry present in the DXF file will be included. Parametric or advanced object features must be added manually in the GDL Object Editor.
