Issue description
You have a point cloud file in XYZ or E57 format and need to import and open it in Archicad.
Solution
Placing a point cloud in Archicad involves importing the point cloud data, which will transform it into a placeable Archicad object, and then positioning it within your project.
Important: Archicad has basic point cloud handling abilities. Files larger than 2–4 GB may cause performance issues; CloudCompare is an open-source tool that allows editing and optimizing point cloud data before importing into Archicad. For advanced point cloud workflows, we recommend using BIMmTool, which provides additional import and editing tools.
- Go to File > Interoperability > Import Point Cloud.
- Browse and select the point cloud file you want to import.
- Click Create or Create and Place to proceed. (Create will simply load it as an object for later use)
-
For this example we will select Create and Place.
-
You can then decide if you would like to place the point cloud at its own internal origin or at the Archicad project origin.
TIP: You can use Point clouds in combination with the native survey point.
- Open the 3D view to confirm the point cloud appears correctly.
- Adjust the floor plan cut plane in View > Floor Plan Cut Plane Settings if the point cloud is not visible in the plan.
- If relocation or reorientation is needed, use Move, Rotate, or Align tools to fine-tune the position of the point cloud. For alignment with your project, you might use known reference points or levels.
Important: Point Clouds serve as a reference for modeling and analysis but are not included in published drawings or layouts.
