Point cloud appears as a single dot in Archicad

Issue Description

You have imported a point cloud into an Archicad solo or Teamwork project. The point cloud  is displayed correctly on the computer where it was created.  However, on other user /Teamwork members' computers the point cloud does not appear; instead, Archicad shows a black dot indicating a missing library part.

Solution

When a point cloud is imported to Archicad, it will be converted to a library object, and a new LCF file will be created as a linked library at the specified path. If the path is only local (e.g., on drive C: in Windows or MacintoshHD on macOS), other Archicad users who lack access to this local path will not be able to view the point cloud. Point clouds will only display correctly if the library file is stored in a location accessible to all users.

In a solo project: store the Point Cloud in a central location

1. The user who created the point cloud library must copy the saved library from their local system. Then, place this copy in a location accessible to all project participants, e.g., the project folder on the office server.

   Note: The current path of the point cloud library can be checked in the Library Manager under Path for the linked library.
   

2. Access File > Libraries and Objects > Library Manager/
3. Use the Remove Selected Library button to remove the locally linked library.
   
4. Add the library from the central location with the Add button.
5. Click on Reload & Apply.
6. Click OK to confirm the changes and close the Library Manager.
   
7. The point cloud object will now be visible to all users who have access to the new storage location.

In a Teamwork project: Upload the point cloud to BIMcloud

1. The user who created the local point cloud library file must go to File > Libraries and Objects > Manage BIMcloud Libraries to upload the library to BIMcloud.
   

2. Then, via File > Libraries and Objects > Library Manager > Add BIMcloud Library..., add the uploaded library to the Teamwork project.

   Note: You will need to reserve the Library Manager in order to make changes.
   

3. Click on Reload & Apply.
4. Click OK to confirm the changes and close the Library Manager.
5. The point cloud object will now be visible to all members of the Teamwork file.
