Issue description
You cannot see MEP tools such as ductwork, pipework, or cabling elements in your toolbox when working on MEP design projects. The MEP elements appear to be missing from the standard toolbox interface, and you cannot place MEP components in your project.
Solution
The MEP elements are not visible in your toolbox because you need to activate the correct Work Environment Profile and ensure the MEP library is loaded. The MEP tools are part of the built-in MEP Designer functionality that requires specific configuration steps.
Setting up the MEP Work Environment
- Go to Options > Work Environment > Apply Profile > MEP Engineering Profile.
- If the MEP Engineering Profile is missing from your Work Environment list, you may need to import it:
- Go to Options > Work Environment > Work Environment Profiles
- Click Import
- Navigate to your installation folder: Defaults > Archicad > WorkEnvironment > Profiles.
- Select the MEP profile file and import it
Loading the required MEP library
- Open File > Libraries and Objects > Library Manager.
- Click Add and locate the MEP Library.libpack folder in your installation directory.
-
Note: If you are working with Monolith libraries (Archicad 28 and earlier) add both the Archicad Library 2* and MEP Library 2* to ensure all MEP elements display correctly

- Click OK to load the libraries
Verifying MEP Tools access
After completing these steps, your toolbox will display the MEP tools including:
- Ductwork tools for mechanical systems
- Pipework tools for plumbing systems
- Cabling tools for electrical systems
You will also have access to:
- MEP-related commands in Design > MEP Engineering tools
- MEP Toolbar with shortcuts to frequently used MEP commands
- Toggle options for Show MEP Reference Lines and Show Open MEP Connections
Additional notes for different versions
For older projects or if you encounter missing profile issues:
- The MEP system was significantly changed from version 26 to 27 and again in 28.
- When opening older files, ensure you load the appropriate migration libraries.
- Some MEP functionalities like the MEP Routing palette were removed in version 27 and replaced with new MEP Designer tools.
