Issue Description
Does Archicad automatically provide a recovery file when the program is restarted after a crash? Is there any way for me to recover my file?
Solution
1. Open the Autosave Folder:
Windows:
C:/Users/<User Name>/GRAPHISOFT > AutoSave-XX
macOS:
Finder > (top) Go > hold down the Alt or Option key > Library > Application Support > GRAPHISOFT > AutoSave-XX
Note: In rare cases, the above path may differ from the standard. Check the path in Archicad: Options > Work Environment > Data Safety and Integrity.
2. Locate the Appropriate Autosave File
- Find the AutoSave folder corresponding to the date and approximate time of the crash.
Locate the backup file as follows: Autosave-XX > @ODB_Database_XX > database.fdb
- Copy the .fdb file and paste it locally, for example, onto your desktop.
- Change the file extension of the copied file from .fdb to .pln.
Then, start Archicad and open the renamed file with the Repair option (Repair Project File).
Note: In rare cases, no recovery file is saved, or the recovery file does not contain all unsaved changes. In such cases, recovery using the database.fdb file is not possible.
3. Check the Backup Project File
If recovery of the crashed file is not possible, you can use the backup project file .bpn.
The .bpn file is stored in the same location as the .pln file. Open the backup project file with the corresponding version of Archicad and save it as a solo project .pln.
