Issue description
In some cases, 3D views or schedule views in Archicad may appear completely black when placed on layouts. This issue is not common, and its root causes can vary. It may sometimes resolve itself with a restart or may require adjusting system or Archicad settings.
Troubleshooting steps
1. Restart Archicad or the workstation
Often, simply restarting Archicad or the entire workstation will resolve the issue.
2. Adjust redraw settings
If the problem persists, try changing the redraw settings in Archicad:
- Go to Options > Work Environment > Advanced Redraw Options.
- Modify the 2D Drawing Hardware Acceleration slider.
- If it is set to Full, change it to Off.
- If it is already set to Off, change it to Full.
TIP: Have a look at Advanced Redraw Options.
3. Update video card drivers (Windows)
The issue can sometimes result from outdated or corrupted video card drivers:
- Download and install the latest professional (not gaming) driver for your dedicated graphics card from the manufacturer’s website.
- Before updating, create a restore point following Microsoft’s guide on creating a system restore point.
- If you have an NVIDIA graphics card, use the latest NVIDIA Studio Driver.
4. Perform a preferences cleaning
If the issue still persists, perform a Preferences Cleaning for the affected Archicad version(s).
Important: Be careful when importing a custom Work Environment Profile after cleaning. Any corruption in the custom profile may reintroduce issues.
Instead, consider only importing your Shortcut Scheme (keyboard shortcuts) and building your new Work Environment Profile starting from the default Architectural Profile XX.
