Issue Description
I have a 3D DWG; is it possible to bring this into my Archicad project?
Solution
It is possible to import a 3D DWG into Archicad. This element will be converted into an object and will not be editable in Archicad. However, the element will be visible in 3D and can be used as a guide for modelling or converted into a morph for further editing.
Option 1—Open as a GDL Object
- Go to File > Libraries and Objects > Open Object.
- In the Open Library Part dialog that appears, go to the Open Library Part from: and select Browse for file… at the bottom of the dropdown menu.
- Locate and open your DWG file.
- By clicking the Settings button, you can review the DXF-DWG translator settings used during import. (Only the options relevant to 3D DWG conversion are listed.)
- Use File > Save As to save the converted object. Define the destination folder and file name in the dialog that appears.
- The element is now available as a GDL object. To use it, activate the Object Tool and place it in your project.
Option 2—Merge the DWG File
- Go to File > Interoperability > Merge > Merge from File.
- Select your DWG file to open it.
-
In the dialog box that appears, select how you want to merge the data and click OK.
- Now you can choose where it is placed within your file.
- Select Merge to merge the DWG.
- Click in the project to place the content of the 3D DWG and complete the merge.
