Issue description
You have set up the Survey Point but the Coordinate Object does not display the expected coordinates. The values shown do not match the surveyor’s data, or the object continues to reference the project origin instead of the survey point. The displayed coordinates may also appear rounded or in the wrong units.
Solution
The problem is typically caused by one or more of the following:
1. Coordinate object is set to project origin
By default, the Coordinate Object may reference the Project Origin instead of the Survey Point. This setting must be changed in the object’s parameters.
- Select the Coordinate Object on the floor plan.
- Open the Object Settings dialog.
- Locate the parameter for Reference Point or Origin.
- Change the setting from Project Origin to Survey Point.
- Confirm the object now displays coordinates relative to the Survey Point.
2. Survey point values not entered correctly
The Survey Point must be set using the correct sign for Easting and Northing values. The surveyor coordinates should be entered as negative relative to the project origin. If you enter positive values instead of negative, the Coordinate Object will display incorrect results.
- Select the Survey Point on the floor plan.
- Enter the correct Easting and Northing values in the Tracker or in Location Settings.
- Ensure you use the minus symbol (–) for negative values as provided by the surveyor.
- Confirm the Survey Point is positioned as intended.
3. Project working units affecting survey point
The Survey Point and Coordinate Object use the project’s Working Units for all displayed values. If your file’s units do not match the surveyor’s units, or if insufficient decimal places are set, the coordinates may be rounded or inaccurate.
- Go to Options > Project Preferences > Working Units.
- Set the Length Unit to match the surveyor’s data (e.g., meters or millimeters).
- Increase the number of decimals to match the precision of the surveyor’s coordinates.
- Apply changes and verify the Survey Point and Coordinate Object now display the correct values.
4. Coordinate set to project origin but not showing coordinate 0,0.
You open your file and the Coordinate object is displaying incorrect coordinates, despite being set to Project origin and being placed on the 0,0 point.
This behavior is caused by elements/data placed far away from the main model/Archicad's origin (0,0,0):
The orange rectangles in the picture above, mark the elements which are placed miles away from the main model/Archicad's origin, the coordinate object then warns us about the existence of these elements.
To fix the issue:
- Right click > Fit in window.
- Delete all of the rogue data and leave only the main data close to the origin.
- Save the file and close it.
- Open the file and the coordinate object will display 0,0,0 again.
