Issue description
You need to create a railing where inner posts are positioned at different distances from each other rather than using a uniform pattern, but these appear evenly spaced when using standard Pattern Distribution settings.
Solution
The railing pattern repeats at fixed intervals by default which creates uniform spacing between inner posts. To achieve varying distances between inner posts you must convert the pattern to segment length which makes each pattern instance independent.
- Select the railing you want to modify
- Right-click on the railing and choose Convert Pattern to Segment Length from the context menu
Note: You may also go to Design > Modify Railing > Convert Pattern to Segment Length - Open Railing Selection Settings and navigate to the Segment tab.
- You will notice that it has a (!) sign. Click Reset Custom Segments at the bottom left corner of the Window.
- Proceed to the Inner Posts tab
- Modify the Distance from Previous value for each inner post individually
- Click OK to apply the changes
Tips:
When working with varying inner post distances, consider these settings:
Lock Position: Click the lock icon next to Distance from Previous to fix specific inner posts at their defined positions. This is essential when pattern distribution might otherwise stretch the pattern.
Pattern Length: The pattern extends to the rightmost Inner Post within the Pattern Editor. Adjust this by modifying the Distance from Previous value of the last inner post.
For railings associated with stairs, you can also set the Pattern Length to match Stair Tread dimensions by checking Set Pattern Length to Number of Treads in the Segment Pattern Settings.
