Issue description
You need to create a bay window in your project but are unsure which tool to use or how to properly model it. The bay window should project outward from the main wall and include multiple glass panels at angles, but the standard window tools don't seem to provide this configuration.
Solution
There are several methods to create bay windows in Archicad, depending on your specific design requirements and level of detail needed.
Method 1: using the built-in Bay Window Tool
- Activate the Window tool from the Design palette
- Open the Window Settings dialog
- Navigate to Bay and Bow Windows folder in the library
- Select Square Bay Window or Bow Window depending on your design requirements
- Configure the dimensions and parameters:
- Set the Width and Height in the basic window settings
- Adjust the Depth to control how far the bay extends from the wall
- Configure the Number of Panels and Opening Types
- Click OK to apply the settings
- Place the bay window on the wall by clicking on the desired location
Method 2: using multiple windows with Corner Connections
When the built-in Bay Window Tool doesn't provide sufficient flexibility, you can create custom bay windows using multiple individual windows.
- Create three Separate Walls at the required angles to form the bay geometry
- Activate the Window tool and select your desired window type
- Place windows in each of the three walls
- For each window, access the Custom Corner settings:
- Go to Window Settings > Custom Corner tab
- Set the Corner Connection Type to Frame for structural connection
- Configure the Connection Angle (typically 135° for standard bay windows)
- Enable Corner Connections:
- Central window: enable corner connections on both left and right sides
- Side windows: enable corner connection on the side facing the center window only
