Issue description
The project requires the design of a continuous railing where each panel differs in color. How can this be achieved in Archicad, allowing for unique designs across the entire railing length?
Solution
By default, each railing is set to have patterns that just repeats based on the distance set. To make the whole railing editable to have each pattern modified separately, we need to convert the pattern to segment length. To do this:
1: Convert the Railing Pattern to Segment Length:
Start by selecting the railing in the project. Right-click and choose "Convert Pattern to Segment Length". This will allow each segment of the railing to be treated as an individual unit, making it possible to customize each panel separately.
2: Edit the Railing Settings:
Open the Railing Selection Settings to modify the individual components of the railing. To prepare for panel customization, delete all existing balusters. This step clears the default pattern and makes space for custom panels to be inserted.
3: Add Custom Panels:
Navigate to the Panels Section within the Railing Settings. Click the (+) icon to add a new panel. To customize the appearance of each panel, use the Override Panel Surface option found under the 3D Representation tab in the Panel Component Settings. This allows you to assign different materials, colors, or finishes to each panel.
TIP: If you want to use a completely different panel style, you can do so by selecting from the drop-down menu in the Panel Settings.
4: Repeat for Each Segment:
Repeat the process of adding and customizing panels for each segment along the length of the railing. Modify each panel’s style and surface finish according to the design requirements. Once the customizations are complete, click OK to finalize the railing design.
