Issue Description
The project involves designing a multi-story building, and there is a need to create an opening for an elevator shaft that spans several floors. As the final dimensions of the shaft aren't confirmed yet, managing multiple individual slab openings for each floor could become tedious. Is there a more efficient way to create a single opening that cuts through multiple stories in Archicad, allowing for easier management and adjustments?
Solution
In Archicad, it is possible to create a single opening that extends across multiple stories, which simplifies future modifications and management. Here's how you can achieve this:
1: Model the Shaft Area: Begin by modeling the area for the elevator shaft using either the Slab, Column or Morph tools.
2: Switch to 3D View: Once the shaft area is defined, switch to 3D View by pressing Ctrl+F4 (Windows) or Cmd+F4 (Mac).
3: Create the Opening:
- With the shaft area selected, navigate to Design > Connect > Create Openings from Selection.
- In the Create Openings window, set the shape of the opening to "Automatic."
- If you want to remove the modeled shaft area after creating the opening, uncheck the option "Keep Original Elements."
4: Merge Nearby Openings:
- Enable the Merge Nearby Openings option, which will automatically combine individual openings across stories that are within a set distance, ensuring a single, continuous shaft opening.
5: Finalize the Opening: After configuring these settings, click "Create Openings". You will now have a single, continuous opening that cuts through multiple slabs, making adjustments and management much simpler.
