Issue description
You want to model a decorative detailed door casing with a custom cross-section shape. The default door settings only provide a rectangular frame option, so no bespoke profile is available directly from the door parameters.
Solution
A custom casing must be modeled as a separate element. Two methods are available depending on your preferred workflow.
Method 1: Column and beam with a Complex Profile
This method uses a Complex Profile applied to a Column (for vertical parts) or Beam (for horizontal segments) element, which is then placed around the door opening. A custom profile must be defined first using the steps below.
- Go to Options > Element Attributes > Profile Manager.
- In the Profile Manager, click New to create a new profile using the Fill tool for your door casing.
- Ensure the Use with setting includes both Column and Beam.
- Click Save and give your profile a descriptive name.
- Apply the profile to the Column and Beam tool through the element setting's Geometry and Positioning panel
- design your desired casing shape.
Method 2: Column and beam with a Complex Profile
This method uses the Morph tool to draw the casing cross-section in 2D on the Floor Plan, and then extrudes it around the door opening using the Tube command in the 3D window.
- Draw the casing profile as a 2D Morph either on the Floor Plan or in 3D
- Select the Morph from the back corner in the 3D window.
- Select Tube from the Pet Palette.
- Tube the Morph around the opening of the Door.
