Description
You have created a 3D section view using a cut plane on your 3D view, and would like to show cut elements with their symbolic material fills instead, of solid colors or surface materials.
Solution
Technical drawing fills may not displayed directly in a 3D View, but you can create a 3D Document of the section cut, which will enable the required settings to create a more technical graphic representation for 3D sections:
Create a 3D Document from the 3D View.
- Open the required section or 3D view.
- Right click on the 3D window or on the View in the Navigator View Map, and select New 3D Document from 3D… to create a new 3D Document from your section cut.
Set model appearance to show fills
-
Right click on your 3D Document in the Navigator, or on its tab, and open the 3D Document Settings.
- Expand the Model Appearance Section.
- Under Cut Elements, ensure Cut Fill is set to Cut Fill, Non-Shaded.
- For uncut elements, use Surface - Cover fill foreground and Transparency as desired.
-
Click OK to confirm settings. The fills will now display in the section cut.
Apply graphic overrides to Fills
- Open the 3D Document.
- Go to Document > Graphic Overrides > Graphic Override Combinations. or Click the Graphic overrides icon from the Quick Options bar.
- Choose from existing combination or click on New to create a new combination.
- Click on Manage rules... and Create a new rule or Edit an existing one.
- Set a new rule where Element Type is All or restrict to the desired element (e.g. Walls, Slabs).
- In the Overrides panel, enable Override Cut Fill Foreground Pen and Override Cut Fill Background Pen to select your preferred fill colors and pens.
- Add the new rule/modified rule to your Graphic Override Rule combinations.
Lastly, confirm the display of your 3D document and make changes using the steps above as needed.
