Issue description
You have an external contractor who needs to access shared files on your BIMcloud on-site or BIMcloud Basic server from outside the office. Because the internal network is protected, direct access from an external network is not possible without additional configuration.
Solution
The following connection methods can be used to provide remote access to the BIMcloud/BIMcloud Basic server:
- VPN
- Public IP address
- DynDNS service
One of these solutions must be implemented by an IT service provider. It is recommended to consult with them to determine which option best fits your network setup and security requirements.
Remote access for BIMcloud Basic with any Archicad version is only supported and permitted via a virtual private network (VPN), as outlined in the End User License Agreement.
- Not permitted: Remote access via port-forwarding and static public IP addresses.
-
Permitted: Remote access exclusively through a VPN connection.
Points to check by IT services
- Public IP Address or DynDNS Service: These require creating a rule in the router to redirect the BIMcloud server and manager ports to the server's IP address. This IP address must be static.
- Firewall: Ensure there are no hardware or software blocks in the firewall that might prevent the connection between the external user and the BIMcloud/BIMcloud Basic server.
- Connection Address: Use the public IP address or DynDNS service address, along with the manager's port number, as the connection address in Archicad.
-
Check Port Numbers: The port numbers for the BIMcloud server and manager can be checked from the manager's web interface. Preferably, log in with the Masteradmin account (the primary administrator account) or a user account with server management rights.
- Go to the Server menu, and check the ports in the Connection Options section in both the server and manager modules..
