On Windows, Archicad may occasionally report missing DLL files. In such cases, this happens because "Smart App Control" has blocked Archicad from running. In several known cases, the error message displayed the specific error code 0xc0e90002.
In these situations, a Windows Security pop-up window often appears at the same time, indicating that the application has been blocked.
Smart App Control is a default but optional security feature from Microsoft. It is designed to block applications that are not trusted by Microsoft’s cloud-based security service. Applications are considered trusted if they have a valid signature; without such a signature, an application can be blocked. Archicad currently does not have this signature.
There are two possible solutions for this issue. The first involves checking the exception list, while the second involves disabling Smart App Control.
If you encounter this issue, please follow the steps below:
I. Exception list
- Open the Start menu and select Settings (or press Windows Key + I).
- Click on Privacy & security in the left sidebar.
- Select Windows Security.
- Click on Virus & threat protection at the top center.
- In the Virus & threat protection window that appears, you can view Protection history, which shows what has been blocked and why, and also configure exclusion lists.
If this does not resolve the root cause of the issue, please proceed to option II.
II. Disabling Smart App Control
- Open the Start menu and select Settings (or press Windows Key + I).
- Click on Privacy & security in the left sidebar.
- Select Windows Security.
- Click on App & browser control.
- Under the Smart App Control section, click on Smart App Control settings.
- Change the option from On or Evaluation to Off.
If none of the workarounds resolve the issue, please report it to Graphisoft Support.
