Issue description
When setting up BIMcloud Basic for the first time, the installation might not succeed if the application was installed incorrectly before, or if the installation options chosen aren’t correct - some users inadvertently select options intended for BIMcloud (on-premises licensed version), such as enabling BIMcloud Manager Backup. In these situations, BIMcloud Basic might not work as expected or let users host or join Archicad Teamwork projects. This article explains some solutions to help resolve these issues.
Solution
A failed BIMcloud Basic installation can typically be resolved by performing a clean re-installation while following the recommended hardware, storage, and network requirements.
Perform a clean re-installation
-
Uninstall BIMcloud Basic
Follow the steps in the official BIMcloud Online Help article: Uninstall BIMcloud.
or
-
Uninstall only the BIMcloud Basic application most recently installed.
Use the Uninstall shortcut located in the component's install folder
-
Go to the BIMcloud Tray Application and use Remove Component from the item’s context menu
Note: If you’re unsure whether BIMcloud Basic has previously been used, perform a full system backup before uninstalling and contact Technical Support if uncertain.
-
Re-install BIMcloud Basic as a clean installation
Follow the BIMcloud Basic – Clean Installation guide our the steps on the article Getting Started with BIMcloud Basic.
During BIMcloud Manager Configuration, please avoid enabling the “Enable BIMcloud Manager Backup” option. This option is intended for BIMcloud (on-premises licensed version) and SaaS only.

Install on a dedicated computer
If the re-installation fails to solve the issue, use a dedicated host machine (no other software running) that meets the recommended hardware requirements.
Note: Preferably, the computer should be:
Less than 3 years old;
Equipped with an SSD;
Running only BIMcloud Basic.
Set the computer’s IP to static/fixed. Your IT professional can configure this.
Download the latest BIMcloud Basic installer.
Install it on the dedicated host computer, using default options
Configure storage correctly
To ensures optimal performance and reliability for your BIMcloud setup, install both the BIMcloud Manager and Server modules on the primary internal drive. Do not use external storage devices (such as NAS, SAN, RAID, or USB drives) for live BIMcloud Basic Data, Projects, Libraries, or Cache folders. These external storage options are not recommended for active data because they may introduce latency, connectivity issues, or data integrity risks during live operations. External storage should only be used for backups, not for live data.
Configure network and permissions
Ensure that the required BIMcloud Basic Manager and Server ports are open (default: 22000 and 22001). If multiple BIMcloud Basic instances are installed on the same host, ensure there are no port conflicts.
Set up a VPN connection if you intend to access BIMcloud Basic remotely, as it is designed for LAN/VPN access only (per the BIMcloud Basic End User License Agreement).
