How to find the private IP address of a computer?

Issue description

It is often necessary to know your computer's Private IP address to troubleshoot networking issues.

Solution

Tip: Avoid connecting to your network through both WiFi and Ethernet simultaneously. If you are using an Ethernet cable, ensure WiFi is turned off (recommended).

Mac

1. Open System Preferences or System Settings and click on the Network icon.
2. Note the private IP address of the computer.

Windows

1. Press the Windows key and R at the same time
2. Type cmd and press OK
3. In the command prompt window that appears type ipconfig and press Enter
4. Look for the IPv4 address and and note it.
