Issue description
You may encounter issues with the Archicad 10 File Converter package, when trying to convert old project files (created in Archicad 8.0, 7.0, or 6.5) into newer Archicad-compatible formats.
These issues include the inability to launch the file converter without additional components such as QuickTime or Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables, or errors when unzipping and running the converter.
Troubleshooting steps
1. Download the Archicad File Converter package
The Archicad File Converter allows you to convert project files from Archicad 6.5, 7.0, or 8.0 into Archicad 10 format, which can be opened in newer versions (e.g., Archicad 26, 24, 25).
Download the package from here.
Note: This page also provides old Archicad packages pre-installed and updated to their latest available build.
Important: To open the converted Archicad 10 files in Archicad 29, 28, or 27, you will need to re-save the file as an Archicad 26 project.
2. Unzip the converter package
-
Download and unzip the file “AC10-XXX-1209-WIN.zip” using a third-party unzipping tool.
Recommended free software: 7-Zip.
- The package does not require installation — it is a standalone folder containing the Archicad 10 application, which can run directly on Windows 10 from any location.
3. Install QuickTime (required dependency)
- Archicad File Converter versions 9 and 10 require QuickTime to run on Windows 10. Without it, the BugReporter aborts the startup process.
- Download and install QuickTime from: Apple Support – QuickTime.
4. Resolve missing DLL file errors
- On some systems, attempting to launch Archicad 10 File Converter may trigger errors about missing MSVC<something>.DLL files.
- To resolve this, install the necessary Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables.
- Download from: Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables for GRAPHISOFT products.
5. Convert your project files
- Look for the executable file in the extracted folder to run the File Converter.
- Open your Archicad 6.5/7.0/8.0 project in the Archicad 10 File Converter.
- Go to File > Save and save it as an Archicad 10 project file.
- This file can now be opened in Archicad 26, 25, 24, etc.
To open this file in versions later to Archicad 26 (Archicad 29, 28, 27):
- Open the Archicad 10 file in Archicad 26,
- In Archicad 26 go to File > Save and save it as an Archicad 26 project.
- Open this file in newer versions and re-save it.
