Issue description
When you place objects from the object library, all items appear as Unclassified in the Classification and Properties panel. The standard classification systems are not available or unchecked, and placed objects do not receive the expected default classifications that typically accompany the project template.
Solution
This occurs because the ARCHICAD Classification—v 2.0 system has been deleted from Classification Manager. Once removed, Library Objects lose their default classification mapping and appear as unclassified.
To resolve this, you can restore default classifications through the steps below.
Method 1: import Classification System from Template
- Go to Options > Classification Manager.
- Click on the Import button.
- In the file dialog, go to:
C:/Program Files/GRAPHISOFT/ARCHICAD 28/Defaults/ARCHICAD - Select the default template file and click Open.
- When prompted, check Include Classifications and select All from Project.
- If duplicate classifications are detected, select Merge.
Method 2: restore Object Classification Mapping
Use this if importing the classification system did not restore object classifications.
- Go to Window > Toolbars > Edit GDL Library Parts.
- In the toolbar, click the dropdown on the far left.
- Select Subtype – Classification Mapping.
- In the mapping window, manually add the missing classifications for each object subtype.
- Reference your regional template's mappings to match the default setup.
- Apply changes and close the dialog.
Method 3: copy from another project
If you have access to a working project with default classifications:
- Open that project and head to Options > Classification Manager.
- Click Export and save the classifications as an XML file.
- Open your affected project.
- In Classification Manager, click Import and select the exported XML file.
- Choose merge options as prompted.
