Issue description
After clicking the Download button on the BIMx Transfer site, the hypermodel downloads as a file instead of opening directly in the BIMx app. The model is saved to the Downloads folder but does not launch the BIMx application automatically.
Solution
This problem occurs because your browser is using desktop mode or doesn't support custom URL schemes that allow direct app launching. The BIMx Transfer site behaves differently based on whether your device is detected as mobile or desktop.
-
Understand how BIMx app integration works
- When the BIMx Transfer site recognizes a mobile device, it provides a special link under the Download button that starts with bimxapplication://.
- This custom URL scheme instructs your device to open the BIMx app and automatically import the model.
- When a device is identified as a desktop, the Download button uses regular https:// links that simply download the file.
-
Check if your browser is in desktop mode
- Open your mobile browser settings.
- Look for Request desktop site or Desktop mode option and ensure it's turned off.
- Refresh the BIMx Transfer site page.
-
Use the correct download method for your situation
- For mobile devices: Tap the Download button. If your device properly supports custom URL schemes, the BIMx app will open automatically and download the model.
-
For desktop browsers: The file will download to your Downloads folder. You'll need to manually open the file to import it into BIMx.
