Issue description
You have encountered the following error message:
Archicad.exe: Fatal error
The Direct3D runtime received a device removed error during presentation.
Reason given: DXGLERROR_DEVICE_HUNG
The application will now terminate.
This issue only occurs on Windows (PC) computers.
If the "Error Direct3D: DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG" alert appears, it indicates a problem with the graphics card driver on the computer. This error is not specific to Archicad; it can also appear in many other programs and games that use Direct3D.
This error often occurs when the graphics card driver on the computer is unstable, incompatible, or temporarily malfunctioning.
Solution
Install a stable version of the graphics driver
The most effective solution is to find a stable version of the graphics driver for the graphics card and install it manually.
Follow these steps:
- Identify the graphics card:
- Right-click the Start menu and select Device Manager.
- Expand the Display adapters section and note the name of the graphics card (NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel).
- Find a stable driver:
- Go to the official website of the graphics card manufacturer (NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel).
- Search for the graphics card model and check the recommended driver versions.
- Consider an earlier version if the latest driver appears to cause issues.
- Install the driver:
- Download the installer file and run it.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to install the driver.
- Restart the computer after the installation is complete.
Prevent Windows from automatically updating the driver
Windows can automatically update the graphics driver, which may reinstall an unstable version. Unfortunately, there is no simple way to fully disable these automatic updates.
We recommend consulting an IT service provider to assist with the configuration of this.
