Issue Description
When managing Archicad Collaborate cloud licenses, administrators or contract managers can configure licenses as either named licenses or floating licenses through the Licensing Management page. The challenge arises when setting up floating licenses for users in specific groups. Can I multi select users to create groups faster.
Solution
In BIMcloud or Archicad Collaborate with cloud licenses, the licenses can be configured in two main ways:
-
Named License: This type of license is assigned to a specific user and is tied to their Graphisoft ID. The user can always access the license as long as they are logged in with their assigned Graphisoft ID.
-
Floating License: This type of license is shared within a group. It is not tied to a specific user but can be accessed by any user within the group as long as the license is available. Once the floating license is in use, other users in the same group cannot access it until it is released.
License Assignment:
- The Administrator or Contract Manager can manage license allocation via the Licensing Management page in the BIMcloud or Graphisoft License Management portal.
- For floating licenses, the Administrator can assign licenses to specific groups.
- Users who are part of these groups can then access these floating licenses, but only if one is available.
Creating and Managing Groups:
- The Administrator or Contract Manager has the ability to create, edit, and invite users (Graphisoft ID accounts) to groups.
- These groups are used to manage the assignment of floating licenses. When users are added to a group, they inherit the access to the floating licenses associated with that group.
- For named licenses, users must be individually assigned to each license.
Managing Access:
- Once users are placed in a group, they can access floating licenses as long as the license is available. When a user is finished using the license, it will be released and made available for other users within the same group.
- Adding members to a group will require 1 or more members to be selected. This has to be done member by member, there is no group selection available.
- Floating licenses offer more flexibility as they allow multiple users to share the same license, but only one user can use the license at a time.
- The Named license approach, on the other hand, locks the license to a specific user, ensuring that only that user can use the license.
