Issue Description
I want to move the project model I am working on to a fresh copy of Archicad. How do I use the Merge From File command?
Solution
1. Launch Archicad and create a New File.
-
- Delete all stories except the Ground Floor to ensure a clean starting point for merging.
- Delete all stories except the Ground Floor to ensure a clean starting point for merging.
2. Merge the Existing Project:
-
- Go to File > Interoperability > Merge > Merge from file
- Select the file containing the existing model you would like to bring in.
- Go to File > Interoperability > Merge > Merge from file
3. Configure Merge Settings:
-
- In the Merge window, choose the option Virtual Building (All Stories) to transfer the entire model.
- Under the Position of Merged File section, select Keep Height as in Story Structure of Original Model to ensure the elements maintain their original elevation.
- In the Merge window, choose the option Virtual Building (All Stories) to transfer the entire model.
4. Click OK to complete the merge. All elements from the existing project will be merged into the updated template file.
5. Import the Project Library:
-
- After merging, go to File > Libraries and Objects > Library Manager to import the project library from the host file, ensuring that all custom objects / materials and elements are properly loaded.
TIP: This process only transfers the model itself. All Viewpoints, Layouts, and Publisher Sets will need to be recreated in the updated template or imported separately using the Merge function a second time in the newly created file, but selecting the option Layout Book (All Layouts, Master Layouts, Drawings)
Plan accordingly to accommodate these adjustments.
