Where do I find and how do I add the default Archicad library?

Solution

The way you load the Archicad Library depends on which library system you are using. 

Starting with Archicad 28, you can use either the Global Library or the traditional Monolith Library.
Archicad 27 and earlier versions only support the Monolith Library.

Important: It is not recommended to load both the Global Library (.libpack files) and the Monolith Library in the same project. Mixing both library systems may lead to compatibility issues, unexpected object behavior, or missing elements, especially during migration or future version upgrades.

The key difference in loading libraries is how each system is added in the Library Manager.

Using the Global Library

When using the Global Library system, you must load the individual .libpack files. Each .libpack represents a specific category (for example, Doors, Windows, or Annotations).

Important: Do not load the folder that contains all the library packages. Only the individual .libpack files should be added.

1. Go to File > Libraries and Objects > Library Manager.
2. Click Add....
3. Navigate to the default Archicad Library Packages location:
   • Windows:
     C:\Program Files\Graphisoft\Archicad <Version>\Archicad Library Packages
   • Mac:
     ~/Applications/Graphisoft/Archicad <Version>/Archicad Library Packages
4. Select the required .libpack file(s) and click Choose/Add.

Using the Monolith Library

The Monolith Library system uses a single folder that contains the full Archicad Library for that version. Choose the section below that applies to your situation:

Archicad 28 or below

1. Go to File > Libraries and Objects > Library Manager.
2. Click Add....
3. Navigate to the default Archicad Library location:
   • Windows:
     C:\Program Files\Graphisoft\Archicad <Version>\Archicad Library <Version>
   • Mac:
     ~/Applications/Graphisoft/Archicad <Version>/Archicad Library <Version>
4. Select the library folder and click Choose/Add.

Archicad 29 or above
