Issue description
When trying to install Archicad on macOS, you receive the error message:
“The disk image couldn’t be opened. The operation couldn’t be completed. Input/output error.”
Solution
The “Disk image couldn’t be opened” error usually appears when the downloaded Archicad installer is corrupted, incomplete, or incompatible with your operating system. Follow these steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:
- Check system requirements: make sure your macOS version meets the system requirements for the Archicad version you are installing.
- Check Archicad Compatibility: macOS
- Verify the download: download the installer again from the official Graphisoft website. Network interruptions can cause an incomplete or damaged installer file.
- Use Disk Utility to verify the image: open Disk Utility, click Images > Verify, then navigate to the disk image (.dmg) file and click Verify. If the image verifies successfully, try opening it again.
- Clear download cache: if you downloaded the file multiple times, older cached data may interfere. Clear your browser’s download cache, or download the file using a different browser or a different network connection.
- Try the default macOS tools: if you used a third-party tool to mount the .dmg file, try mounting it with Finder or with Disk Utility instead.
- Check permissions: right-click the .dmg file, select Get Info, then check the Sharing & Permissions section to confirm that you have access to the file. Adjust the permissions if needed.
- Restart the system: if the problem persists, restart your Mac and try opening the disk image again. A restart can clear temporary issues that prevent the image from mounting.
