Issue Description
I have prepared views for a sketch design, and I have placed automatic dimensions for walls. Then the saved views from the view map, set with proper layer combinations are placed on the layouts, but the representation of the placed drawings do not match with their source view, as the dimension lines are not visible, only their values. How did this happen?
Solution
The issue you're experiencing where dimension lines are missing on the layout while only the values are visible typically occurs due to the settings applied to the dimensions. Specifically, this can happen when the option Display only the Dimension text is enabled.
To resolve this, follow these steps:
- Check Dimension Selection Settings:
- Select the dimension tool in the view map where the issue is occurring.
- Open the Dimension Selection Settings by right-clicking on the dimension or accessing it through the dimension tool's settings panel.
- Adjust Dimension Type:
- Navigate to the Dimension Type section within the settings.
- You'll notice an option labeled "Show Dimension Text Only." If this option is checked, it causes the dimension lines to be hidden, displaying only the numerical values.
- Uncheck the “Show Dimension Text Only” option to ensure that both the dimension lines and the values are visible on the layout.
- Save as Favorites:
- To prevent this issue from occurring in future projects or views, it's advisable to save the correct dimension settings as a Favorite.
- In the Dimension Tool Settings, after making sure everything is set correctly (including line visibility), click on the Favorites option.
- Save the current settings under a new favorite name, so that you can easily apply these settings to dimensions in future projects.
- Apply Saved Favorites to Existing Dimensions:
- For any existing dimensions that might still be affected by this issue, you can quickly apply your saved favorite settings by selecting the dimensions and choosing the appropriate favorite from the Favorites palette.
- This will ensure that all dimensions across your project follow the correct settings, eliminating the issue of missing lines.
- Update the Layout Sheet:
- Once all adjustments are made, revisit the layout sheet to ensure that the dimension lines now appear correctly alongside their respective values.
- If any issues persist, verify that all changes have been correctly applied and that the views on the layout have been updated to reflect the most recent settings.
If the dimensions appear correctly in the view map but not on the layout, the discrepancy might be due to the On-Screen View Option, specifically, the Dimension Reference Line option being enabled. To align your view map with what’s shown on the layout:
- Access On-Screen View Options: Go to View > On-Screen View Options > Dimension Reference Lines.
- Turn Off the Option: By turning this off, your view map should match the layout exactly.
This proactive approach not only addresses the immediate issue but also helps prevent similar problems in future projects, ensuring consistency and accuracy in your layouts.
