Creating custom line types – common mistakes to avoid

Issue description

This article explains why a custom line type pattern may not paste correctly into the pattern box in Archicad and how to create a valid custom line pattern using supported tools.

Solution

When defining a custom line type in Archicad, only the Line Tool and Arc/Circle Tool can be used to create a valid 2D pattern. The Polyline Tool and Spline Tool are not supported for creating line type components and will not paste into the pattern box correctly.

To create a custom line type pattern using unsupported shapes, convert them into lines and arcs as follows:

1. Draw the shape using the Polyline Tool or Spline Tool.
2. Select the Line Tool.
3. Use the Magic Wand to trace the shape. This creates an equivalent pattern using only lines and arcs.
4. Delete the original polyline or spline.
5. Copy and paste the remaining lines and arcs into the custom line type pattern box.
